Home / About

Trained in the numbers. Experienced inside the bank.

Most brokers can quote you a rate. Fewer can tell you why a lender assessed your income the way it did, and what to do about it.

Portrait of Afkar – 4:5, professional, warm lighting.

I came into mortgage broking from a background in a top-tier financial institution, with a deep-seated reason for the move: a genuine interest in guiding people toward financial empowerment, rather than simply processing their applications.

Most people make a handful of major borrowing decisions across an entire lifetime. They do it with incomplete information, under time pressure, and usually with advice from someone whose interests aren't quite aligned with theirs. That struck me as a problem worth working on.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of International Business, majoring in Accounting – Monash University
  • Diploma of Business
  • Certificate IV in Mortgage Broking and Finance

The Cert IV is the industry requirement. The rest is why I can read a set of company financials, understand what sits behind a taxable income figure, and work out what a lender will actually make of it before we apply anywhere.

Who I work with

First home buyers, investors, and owner-occupiers refinancing or upgrading. Increasingly, self-employed borrowers and people with income structures that don't fit a standard payslip – which is where the accounting training earns its keep.

Three languages

I speak English, Sinhala and Tamil. This matters more than it might sound. Financial vocabulary is precisely where second-language confidence breaks down – someone can be entirely fluent day to day and still be unsure what "offset," "serviceability buffer" or "cross-collateralisation" means for them specifically.

It also matters because you're often not the only decision-maker. Parents and extended family are frequently part of the conversation, and being able to bring them into it properly is regularly what makes the difference.

Beyond finance

Cricket, motorsport, and whatever course I've most recently talked myself into. The upskilling habit is not unrelated to the job – lender policy changes constantly, and staying current is most of what separates useful advice from confident guesswork.

How I work

Four steps, and you'll know where you stand after the first one.

1

A conversation

Fifteen minutes on where you are now and where you're trying to get to. No cost, no obligation, no paperwork.

2

Your position, clearly

I work out what you can genuinely borrow and what that means in the market you're buying in.

3

Options, explained

A shortlist of lenders and structures with the trade-offs spelled out, so the decision is yours to make.

4

Through to settlement

I manage the application, chase the lender, and stay in touch afterwards to review it annually.

Prefer Sinhala or Tamil?

Just say so when you book. A home loan is the largest commitment most people ever make, and it's worth having that conversation in the language you think in.
